The Drainage Services Department has organised a thematic manhole cover design competition to beautify the city and enrich tourism elements. The winner designs are produced into real manhole covers and installed in different districts. To align with the standards of keyholes, stormwater and sewer infrastructure, these winning designs have undergone adjustment, which involves fine-tuning the indications and refining the colour codes and graphic elements.

This unique thematic manhole cover features the beloved heritage Blue House in Wan Chai, one of the few remaining examples of 1920s Tong Lau with balconies in Hong Kong. The design beautifully showcases the iconic blue façade of this historical landmark with gradient colours and contemporary touch.
